This freely available report (House of Commons library) makes sobering reading for any secondary teacher. In short: all bar one region of England contributed to a sizeable drop in attendance of 9%. I didn’t expect it to be quite this high.
Whilst clearly a national problem for our students, there is noticeable variation across the country.
This sentence caught my eye: “Attendance was uneven across different regions in England. On average, it was highest in the South West and lowest in the West Midlands”. Sadly this mirrors the private clients I worked with during the spring 2020 lockdown. The playing field has been badly tilted according to region.
To reiterate, this is precisely why Bayliss Tuition was started; to give as many students the opportunity to receive affordable and useful academic catch-up.
