This table summarises all of the GCSE courses offered.

This offering fprovides the concentrated revision required by students when faced with ~10 subjects during the May/June exam period. Furthermore we’ve found that a ‘mix and match’ offering best suits a student’s needs and budget.

Each course was designed from the outset to be most useful to students, not a re-hash of what may (or may not) have been covered at school.

Once you’ve chosen your subject(s) click the blue subject names to make your bookings.

Overview Courses

Overview courses were designed to offer a cost effective means of covering an exam syllabus. These are the best value course of their type, anywhere, for revising an entire module/unit.

  • Depending on popularity, you will join a lesson of up to 50 students, and the teacher will work slowly from start-to-end.
  • They will frequently intersperse the theory with worked examples. During these parts we ask you to have your video on, but microphone muted. – seeing faces really does make the teacher’s job much easier
  • Despite the amazing price, we enable students to check their understanding. We use advanced ‘progress checker’ questions, with the multiple choice answers fed live to the teacher, to enable the teacher to efficiently gauge understanding* on the current topic. They can then change tack if necessary.

(* Using these assessments for learning has been widely recognised by academic researchers as the key to maximising a student’s progress, when learning a difficult subject)

Specialist Courses

“Specialist” courses, like the name suggests, focus on one area of a syllabus, with a much smaller class size (up to 20). The secret to successful teaching of maths and sciences is a ‘fundamentals first’ approach. Therefore a Specialist course will review a major topic or concept starting with the basic ideas. students who know their weak areas, but need more detailed explanations on certain areas, should go for a Specialist course.

There will be regular Q&A breaks, and breakout rooms for problem solving, that the teacher will then discuss.

The “Fields” topic within A Level Physics is a good example:

  • This Fields Specialist course would spend concentrate on developing the understanding of the ‘field’ and therefore why it was invented (if you didn’t yet know, it’s just a mathematical tool)
  • How one can then understand and predict behaviour in gravitational, electric and magnetic phenomena.
  • Why introducing maths (‘equipotential’ for example) really does simplify our lives.
  • Afterwards you’ll be in a strong position to tackle these exam questions.

Supervision Courses

Supervision courses are smiliar to the supervisions that Matthew, the Director of Bayliss Tuition, enjoyed as a student at Cambridge University (much the same format is provided at Oxford University which they call ‘Tutorials’).

  • Supervision courses provide a very personalised approach to one or more topics of concern for the group of student(s).
  • there will be a maximum of 4 students
  • The teacher and strudents will initially discuss the background theory and then thoroughly work through the students’ pre-attempted practise questions.

Obviously this amount of preparation required of the teacher requires a considerably higher price than our Overview and Specialist courses.
